About the Role

As a Cover Supervisor, your responsibilities may include:

• Supervising classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff.
• Delivering instructions and overseeing work prepared by classroom teachers.
• Supporting students in remaining focused and engaged with assigned activities.
• Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
• Maintaining a calm, respectful and productive learning environment.
• Responding appropriately to questions about the work set.
• Reporting any concerns or issues to the appropriate school staff.
• Supporting students with different learning needs where appropriate.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and other school staff.

Cover Supervisors generally supervise work that has already been planned rather than taking on the full teaching responsibilities of a qualified teacher.

Specific duties will depend on the school and individual assignment.

Potential opportunities may include occasional supply days, short-term classroom cover and longer-term Cover Supervisor placements.

Previous Cover Supervisor experience would be beneficial, but we also welcome enquiries from candidates with relevant experience in roles such as Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, youth worker or sports coach.
